Blue Moose

Blue Moose is a group of independent artists who come together to produce innovative new works.  Blue Moose came to be in a time when it was difficult for Australian actors of non-typical appearance to gain exposure in theatre; so there has been a long ethos of 'colour blind' casting within the group.  Blue Moose began life at the Blue Room Theatre in Perth, Western Australia in 1998 with the comedy '2 Loud Slopey Chicks' about growing up Asian in Australia in the 1970's and '80's. '2 Loud Slopey Chicks' toured to Sydney and Canberra evoking audience responses like "You were my voice!" Other Blue Moose shows include 'The Hand and other creeping tales' (2001) which was based on Victorian ghost stories.  This moody and slightly scary play adapted 3 classic ghost stories to the stage giving audiences a thrill with a bit of shadow play and some blood sucking fun. 'Heartworm' (2011)was a black comedy about someone who wants to leave the planet.  It told the story of Ann, a veterinarian verging on the brink of suicide in a solo performance that was not all sombre.
The latest Blue Moose show to hit the Blue Room was 'The Warrior and the Princess' which opened in October 2012.  After a sell out season at The Blue Room Theatre, the play returned in 2013 in partnership with Spare Parts Puppet Theatre for a season at The Fremantle Festival.  In 2014, this AWGIE Award Nominated play was accepted as part of The New York International Fringe Festival.
